Renewable Energy Systems (RES) and Southern Power have agreed to jointly develop about 3GW of wind farms across the US.
The partners will build 10 projects that are expected to start operating between 2018 and 2020.
RES will be the lead developer and balance-of-plant constructor for the projects, it said.
The deal with Southern Power represents a new approach for the company, which has so far engaged in development partnerships on a limited basis, it said.
The rapid growth of wind development across the Americas presents opportunities to pursue creative operating relationships with strong partners, RES said.
Georgia utility Southern Power has signed agreements to buy wind turbine equipment from Siemens and Vestas, according to the developer.
