RES takes on Bunnyconnellan operations

RES takes on Bunnyconnellan operations

RES has taken over operations of the 28MW Bunnyconnellan wind farm in County Mayo, in Ireland.

The company will provide asset management services at the 12-turbine installation, owned by sustainable infrastructure company NTR.

The work has involved RES completing pre-takeover inspections of the wind turbines via live streaming of the turbine inspection works.

RES and NTR completed the turbine inspections by undertaking the “snagging” remotely to limit the number of personnel travelling to the site due to Covid-19.

All aspects of the turbines including the foundations, high voltage kit, towers, nacelles, and blades were inspected via a mobile phone app.

In total more than 80 snags were successfully identified and addressed during lockdown to allow the turbines to safely come online, said RES.

RES asset management director Darren Cook said: “At the moment we are all using video streaming to have business meetings. Why not take this approach out to sites to help us?

“We’re pleased that a bit of inventive thinking has helped achieve takeover and we’re thrilled to be expanding our asset management portfolio with NTR at Bunnyconnellan.”

NTR senior asset manager Kieran Tubridy said: “NTR is delighted that Bunnyconnellen has gone fully operational and it is the last of our NTR Wind 1 LP asset to do so.

“RES has stepped-up to help us achieve take-over at Bunnyconnellan and shown their resilience and adaptability during this difficult time.

“As we move into operations we know that RES’ experience and expertise will help to ensure that the project delivers industry best practice health and safety, commercial and technical performance.”

The contract for Bunnyconnellan follows NTR appointing RES to manage operations of its 25MW Castlecraig wind farm in County Tyrone, 18 months ago.
