General Motors (GM) is to buy 50MW of electricity generated by Renewable Energy Systems’ 150MW Cactus Flats wind farm in Texas.
The contract, which will start in the first half of 2018, will see the delivery of 193,000MWh a year to the company’s Austin IT Innovation Center, an office in Fort Worth and 13 parts warehouses.
GM worked with Altenex, an independent renewable energy advisor, to identify renewable energy projects in Texas and complete the deal.
GM global manager of renewable energy Rob Threlkeld said: “GM’s commitment to renewable energy is helping transform the way electricity is produced, distributed and consumed around the world, and we’re doing it in a way that makes our company and communities stronger.”
