Civil engineering company RJ McLeod has won the main construction contract to build Community Windpower’s 30MW Sneddon Law onshore wind farm in Scotland.
Development of the East Ayrshire scheme is currently underway and is due to be completed later this year. It is approved for a 25-year operational life.
It is the fourth wind farm Glasgow-based RJ McLeod will construct for Community Windpower, following on from the most recent collaboration on 81.7MW Aikengall IIa Community Wind Farm in East Lothian, which was commissioned in December 2021.
Community Windpower managing director Rod Wood said: “Breaking ground at Sneddon Law is a huge milestone for us, and it was a fantastic way to round off 2022.
“We value the close partnership that we have with everyone at RJ McLeod, and the quality of their work is testament to their dedication and deep-rooted presence across Scotland.
“Supporting Scottish jobs and industry has been a tenet of our business since its inception, and we are delighted that we can continue to support so many highly skilled workers in the local area with developments like Sneddon.”
The developer said it has to date invested more than £500m in Scotland through its wind development portfolio, with this figure set to rise to £2bn by 2025 if three future projects – Sanquhar II, Faw Side, and Scoop Hill – receive planning approval.
