The Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has issued the setting-up authorisation for the first phase of the 450MW Vifor wind farm in Buzau county.
The project is being developed by Rezolv Energy and Low Carbon.
The setting-up authorisation is the final approval required, with construction work at the site to begin shortly and scheduled to be completed in approximately 18 months.
Once operational, Vifor will cover a total area of 2869 hectares.
Rezolv Energy’s general manager Romania Marian Pavel said: “Vifor may be the smallest of Rezolv’s projects in Romania but it will still be a very large wind farm which will help reduce Romania’s dependence on fossil fuels, enhance the country’s energy security and improve air quality.
“The setting-up authorisation, the largest wind farm project approved by ANRE in the last few years, is a big milestone because it moves us straight into the construction phase.
“We therefore remain on track to bring the project onstream before the end of 2025, which is good news – both for Rezolv and for Romania.”
Rezolv, which launched 18 months ago, already has over 2GW of clean energy being prepared for construction in south eastern Europe.
As well as the Vifor site, projects include the 1GW Dama Solar in western Romania, the 600MW Dunarea East & West wind farms in Romania’s Constanța county, and St George, a 229MW PV array in north-eastern Bulgaria.
