RWE is investigating the cause of a turbine blade detachment at the 57.4MW Brechfa Forest West onshore wind farm in south Wales.
The developer confirmed that a team was mobilised last week following discovery of the issue in Carmarthenshire and safety measures have been implemented while an assessment takes place.
Brechfa Forest West features 28 Senvion MM92 machines and was commissioned in 2018.
An RWE spokesperson said: “On 25 February our team attended the Brechfa Forest West wind farm in Wales after discovering that a blade had detached from one of the turbines.
“The safety of all remains our top priority. As a precaution, the affected area has been cordoned off with a 50-metre safety zone established around the turbine, and the fallen blade removed from site for investigation.
“The area was empty when the incident occurred. Immediate measures were taken to ensure the safety of the site, and a full assessment of the incident’s cause and impact is ongoing.
“We are working closely with Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to ensure safety in the forest area. All relevant parties have been informed, and our staff remain on site to oversee safety measures.”
NRW has temporarily closed off the area as a precautionary safety measure while the incident is investigated.
