Energiekontor has sold the 18MW Würselen wind farm in the district of Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, to German utility SachsenEnergie.
The repowered site, commissioned in May 2025, replaces three 1.5MW GE turbines with three 6MW Vestas V150 machines featuring 125-metre hub heights and 150-metre rotors.
Energiekontor said the project will produce about 41 million kilowatt hours annually, enough to power 12,500 households and avoid 31,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
Chief executive Peter Szabo said: “Repowering wind parks is an important part of how Germany can achieve its expansion targets. With this transaction, working together for the first time, Energiekontor and SachsenEnergie are sending out a strong signal in favour of sustainable renewable energies.”
Szabo added that the company has already sold five projects totalling 115MW this financial year, with further sales expected.
SachsenEnergie NaturKraft, a subsidiary of Dresden-based SachsenEnergie, is the buyer and will assume ownership while Energiekontor continues to provide operational management and optimisation support.
SachsenEnergie chief executive Frank Brinkmann said: “We are delighted to be expanding our wind portfolio geographically with the Würselen wind park and diversifying into other wind regions with a new partner.”
Head of the NaturKraft business unit Jens-Patric Hirtz added: “We remain open to collaborations. These help us to consolidate our planned growth and diversify. However, it is important to us that we achieve this growth through our own projects.”
