Cloud platform Salesforce has committed to buying power from a second wind farm project as part of a plan to meet 100% of its energy needs from renewables.
The San Francisco company has signed a 12-year virtual power purchase agreement with a 24MW development in Texas, building on a similar deal with a 40MW project in West Virginia.
The two agreements are expected to generate more electricity than Salesforce’s global use in full-fiscal 2015. Both wind farms are scheduled to be operational in 2016.
“This agreement represents the biggest step in our company’s history towards meeting our goal to be powered 100% by renewable energy,” said chief financial officer Mark Hawkins.
“We’re delivering a cleaner cloud by embracing sustainability in every aspect of our business; from how we deliver our products, to our internal operations, to our focus on clean and renewable energy.”
