Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power will begin construction at its 120MW Khalladi wind farm in Morocco after completing its contract line-up.
The developer said today it was ready to build the wind farm. It did not name contractors, however, Vestas has been chosen as turbine supplier, it is understood.
The $180m project near Tangier is 75%-owned by ACWA. ARIF Investment Fund holds the balance.
The wind farm is the first facility the pair will develop under Morocco’s renewable energy law, passed in 2009.
The African country aims to install 2GW of wind power capacity by 2020.
“This new wind energy project reinforces our positioning as a major player in the country’s renewable energy sector,” ACWA Power chief investment officer Rajit Nanda said.
