Eneco has inked an agreement with Royal Schiphol Group to provide the Dutch airport owner with the entirety of its energy needs from wind power.
Royal Schiphol said all of its business units will run on sustainable power generated in the Netherlands from 1 January, 2018.
The deal involves Eneco providing the company with 200GWh of green energy every year for 15 years, powering airports including Schiphol, Rotterdam, The Hague Airport, Eindhoven Airport and Lelystad Airport.
Power will initially be supplied by Eneco’s Vianen wind farm, due to be operational from January. Following the construction of more wind farms, all of Royal Schiphol’s power needs are expected to come from new Eneco developments by 2020.
In the meantime, Royal Schiphol said it will source energy from “existing sustainable energy sources in the Netherlands.”
