Scottish ministers have rejected RES plans for the 17-turbine Keirs Hill wind farm in Ayrshire.
The up to 57.8MW project was rejected largely on the grounds of visual and landscape impacts, including on the historic Waterside ironworks complex.
Ministers also agreed with the government reporter that the proposed 149-metre turbines would be “dominating”.
RES applied to build Keirs Hill in late 2013. East Ayrshire Council filed a formal objection in 2014.
RES head of projects – Scotland Simon Peltenburg said: “RES firmly believes that Keirs Hill is an appropriate location for a wind farm.
“The turbines proposed would have been a suitable fit with the landscape and industrial heritage of the area.
“We’re deeply disappointed with the decision made by the Scottish government to refuse permission.”
