Senvion has signed a deal to supply two MM92 turbines to developer EDL for an offgrid project in the Australian outback.
The German outfit said the Coober Pedy hybrid micro-grid project in the south of the country will feature 2MW turbines.
It will also feature a combination of solar and battery storage to reduce the town’s reliance on diesel fuel, it added.
Construction will start in September and full operations will begin in the second half of 2017. Nacelles and rotors will be manufactured at Senvion’s factories in Portugal.
Senvion Australia manging director Chris Judd said the company was “thrilled” to be working with developer EDL.
“Senvion’s robust and reliable technology is perfectly suited to remote applications, including the harsh conditions of South Australia’s outback, and we have the right skills and expertise to make this project a success,” Judd said.
The project has secured AUS$18.4m in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.
