Siemens has confirmed that it is to supply Westar Energy with 280MW for the Western Plains wind farm near Spearville in Kansas.
The German manufacturer will deliver, support install and provide services for 122 SWT108 2.3MW wind turbines.
Installation is scheduled to begin in early summer 2016, with the start of operations expected by early 2017.
The service and maintenance will include the Siemens’s advanced remote monitoring and diagnostics.
The blades will be manufactured at the Siemens’s facility in Fort Madison in Iowa.
The nacelles will be assembled at the company’s factory in Hutchinson in Kansas.
Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division chief executive officer onshore Thomas Richterich said: “We are looking forward to working with Westar Energy on this large and important project.
