Southern Power has acquired the 136MW Skookumchuck wind farm in Washington state from RES for an undisclosed price.
The project, located in Lewis and Thurston Counties, is Southern Power’s first wind facility in the state and will comprise 38 Vestas turbines.
Construction is underway, with commercial operation scheduled for the first quarter of 2020.
Electricity from the wind farm will be sold to Puget Sound Energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Southern Power is the majority owner and has signed an agreement to sell a minority stake in the facility to TransAlta Corporation upon commercial operation.
Southern Power president Bill Grantham said: “This project is a great addition to our renewable portfolio.
“We continue to strive to develop clean, safe, reliable and affordable wholesale energy resources for the benefit of our customers.”
Skookumchuck brings Southern Power’s wind portfolio to more than 1960MW and renewables fleet to 3190MW.
