The UK’s Met Office has signed a two-year contract to provide ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) with upgraded weather monitoring and alerting software.
The software, called VisualEyes, will allow SPR to access the last two hours of real-time weather data plus forecast periods from six hours to 14 days ahead, the Met Office said.
The information will help the wind farm operator plan maintenance sessions and manage the safety of on-site staff.
“With 30 sites across the country to monitor, it’s vital to have a system that’s accurate and that we can trust,” SPR control center manager Mark Gailey said.
The upgraded software, which has a redesigned user interface, will be on display at the RenewableUK Marketplace conference in Liverpool next week.
