Utility developer SSE is paving the way for a new up-to-40-turbine mega-wind farm in the Scottish Highlands.
The company has approached planning officials with early stage details of the Cloiche project as part of a scoping exercise.
Cloiche would be adjacent to the under-construction 228MW Stronelairg wind farm and operational 100MW Glendoe hydro project (pictured) in the Monadhliath mountains south-east of Fort Augustus.
Turbines of up to 175 metres with 136-metre rotors could feature at the wind farm.
No potential capacity is referenced but 4MW turbines would suggest a 160MW project. All parameters are subject to further technical and environmental review.
The project is the first newbuild to be proposed by SSE in the UK post-subsidy era.
