SSE has awarded Highland contractor RJ McLeod the civil engineering works contract for the 225MW Stronelairg wind farm near Fort Augustus in the Great Glen, Scotland.
Construction is expected to take just over two years to complete, with the project expected to be fully operational by summer 2019.
The main works will start by building access tracks through the site and the spur roads out to each of the turbine locations, SSE said.
The construction of the turbine bases will start in late spring, together with work on the crane hardstanding areas.
The project will feature 53 V117 and 13 V112 3.45MW turbines supplied by Vestas.
SSE head of projects David Sutton said: “This is an extremely important milestone for Stronelairg wind farm and we are delighted to be working with RJ McLeod again.
“We have already met a number of businesses from across the Highlands to discuss the future business opportunities when construction begins at our Open 4 business event held in December.”
