SSE is kicking off delivery of turbine components today for the 172.8MW Clyde 2 wind farm extension in South Lanarkshire in Scotland.
A total of 54 Siemens 3.2MW units will be transported to the site on land surrounding Camps Reservoir to the northeast of the existing 350MW Clyde wind farm.
The route for the turbine blades and tower sections will begin at King George V Dock, Braehead, travelling east on the M8 and southbound on the M74, the company said.
The load will exit at junction 13, Abington, on the M74 it will then travel north along the A702 and into the site accessone1 at Wandel, SSE said.
The components will be delivered between Monday to Friday each week under police escort, with three abnormal load components in each convoy.
“These abnormal loads are likely to leave the harbour between 0300–0400hrs each delivery day, although these times are subject to change at short notice at the direction of Police Scotland,” the company said.
SSE added that the turbine hub, nacelle and other ancillary parts will be delivered by HGV throughout the week and will only have a Police Scotland escort from Junction 13, M74 along the short section of the A702.
The existing Clyde wind farm consists of 152 Siemens 2.3MW turbines.
