SSE has won permission from Scottish ministers to increase turbine dimensions for its consented up to 457MW Viking remote islands wind farm on Shetland.
The developer can now build 103 machines with a tip height of 155 metres instead of 145 metres as stipulated under permission granted in 2012.

Permitted rotor diameters at Viking are now 120 metres, up from 110 metres.
SSE has yet to make a final decision on turbines, but the candidate machine for the variation of Section 36 consent application was the Siemens Gamesa 4.3MW-120 unit, according to project documents.
The project will be entered into the third allocation round of the Contract for Difference price support regime, which opened on 29 May.
