Statkraft has finalised contracts for its almost 38MW Twentyshilling wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway with RJ McLeod taking the civils scope.
The Norwegian developer has also appointed Powersystems UK to provide electrical works and appointed Ionic Consulting as owner’s engineer for the construction phase.
It has also confirmed the project will use nine Vestas V117-4.2MW turbines with 81.5 metre towers to maximise generation in the site’s medium to high wind conditions. Tip heights will stand at 140 metres.
The site compound has already been established at the project 4.8km south of Sanquhar and work on access tracks is underway.
Statkraft has largely mimicked its approach from its nearby 43.2MW Windy Rig wind farm, where the same contractors have been used but smaller Vestas V112 turbines.
The company said continuing to work with the same civils and electrics contractors would help it achieve a timely construction process.
Both wind farms will be sold to Greencoat UK Wind post-construction and operate on a merchant basis, with Statkraft continuing to provide operational management services once they are online.
Statkraft is targeting Q3 2021 to bring Twentyshilling online while Q1 is being targeted for Windy Rig.
Statkraft UK MD David Flood said it was “fantastic” to see the company’s second subsidy-free project start construction while RJ McLeod said it looked forward to constructing its fifth Scottish project with the developer.
