Statkraft has been granted approval for the 41MW Rappenhagen onshore wind farm in Germany.
The project, located in a forest area in Oedelsheim, Hesse, is Statkraft’s first self-developed wind farm in Germany.
It is expected to produce 90GWh per year, supplying over 22,000 homes with renewable energy.
The wind farm (visualisation pictured) will comprise six Vestas V172-6.8MW turbines with a total height of 261 metres.
Since 2021, Statkraft has carried out extensive technical planning as well as species and nature conservation studies in the area.
The company is working in close collaboration with the Forestry Office of the Oedelsheim forest district to develop a wind farm layout that is as sympathetic as possible to its surroundings.
Statkraft said the wind farm will occupy only 0.4% of the area, a significant part of which is already tree-free or has been damaged due to climate conditions.
Rappenhagen has secured approval under the German Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG).
Project manager Markus Schoppmann said: “I am pleased to achieve this important milestone. After several years of intensive and careful planning, we have been eagerly awaiting the approval.”
Construction is scheduled to begin in the autumn of next year, with commissioning planned for the end of 2028.
