SSE has installed the last of 66 turbines at the 228MW Stronelairg wind farm near Fort Augustus in the Great Glen, Scotland.
Head of projects David Sutton said: “It’s fantastic to see Stronelairg reach this important milestone. Since construction began back in 2016, the project team has battled some unique challenges, including severe weather and the beast from the east, difficult road conditions and geography as they worked to reach this milestone.
“Their ability to safely and responsibly deliver the project to this point shows the skills and expertise of the team and they should be immensely proud of their work so far.”
SSE said the Stronelairg team worked closely with the local community throughout the project, taking on board feedback, including amending turbine delivery times from day time to the evening to help minimise any disruption to the tourist season in the area.
The project, which comprises 53 V117 and 13 V112 Vestas 3.45MW machines, has now entered the final development phase. It delivered first power in March.
Stronelairg has also resulted in over £3m of road, footpath and crossing upgrades in the area, SSE added.
