During the month of August wind energy generated in Sweden nearly topped 2 tera-watt hours (TWh), a record, according to industry group Svensk Vindenergi.
Wind produced reached 1.91TWh, the highest August production of all time.
The data on wind power production per month, provided by Svensk Vindenergi, is taken from Nordpool.
So far in 2022, from January through August, wind power has produced just over 22TWh and by Svensk Vindenergi’s forecast wind will produce about 35TWh in 2022, an increase of about 8TWh on 2021.
The forecast for 2024 is that wind power production will pass 50TWh and become Sweden’s second largest power generation technology, after hydropower.
The forecast is based on ordered wind turbines and permitted projects.
All the additional production until 2024 will come from onshore wind power.
The additional wind power production will also put downward pressure on the price of electricity, Svensk Vindenergi stated.
In addition to a depressed electricity price, the increasing wind power production means that the water (energy) can be stored in hydropower dams and last longer.
