TagEnergy has made its first UK investment in wind generation with the acquisition of four mid-stage development projects in Scotland totalling almost 300MW.
The global clean energy company purchased full ownership of the Cairnmore Hill, Glenburnie, Sclenteuch and Torfichen wind farms from RES, which will continue to provide development services.
TagEnergy said the acquisitions mark a “monumental step” in its expansion as a multi-technology independent power producer, combining renewable generation and storage assets across the UK.
The company currently operates six grid-connected battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a combined 320MW, taking its total UK pipeline to more than 1.5GW.
Chief executive Franck Woitiez said: “This is a monumental step in TagEnergy’s UK journey as we become a true multi-technology IPP with generation and storage technologies to drive the country’s energy transition on more fronts simultaneously.”
“These wind farm acquisitions are a strategic investment – in technology, location and timing. Onshore wind is critical to delivering the UK’s clean energy future,” he added.
RES UK & Ireland managing director Lucy Whitford said: “We’re delighted to continue our relationship with TagEnergy and look forward to seeing these four wind farms come to life with our continued support.”
TagEnergy’s new Scottish projects represent a combined 270MW and are located near Thurso, Midlothian, East Ayrshire and the Scottish Borders.
