Three Finnish wind farms enter construction

Three of Neoen and Prokon’s Finnish onshore wind farms have entered construction, renewable energy consultancy Natural Power has stated.

The group, which acted as technical adviser for the projects, said that the assets are expected to be operational in 2025.

The three wind farms are the 40.4MW Bjorkliden project, located in the municipality of Narpes in the western region of Ostrobothnia. This will use seven Nordex turbines.

The Storbotet wind farm is located in the municipality of Uusikaarlepyy, in the region of Ostrobothnia, and will comprise 17 Vestas wind turbines with a total capacity of 105.4MW, more than the 95 MW originally planned.

And the Lumivaara wind farm, which is located in the municipality of Hyrynsalmi, in the region of Kainuu, will comprise nine Vestas wind turbines, with a total capacity of 55.8MW, up from the 53MW originally planned.

Neoen owns an 80% stake in each project, the remaining 20% being owned by Prokon.

Natural Power has now also commenced construction monitoring for the lenders across all three sites.

Neil Marshall, Advisory Lead – Onshore Wind, at Natural Power said: “I am delighted that the Natural Power team was able to help three more substantial projects in Finland reach financial close. This was a typical multi-disciplinary project that drew upon experience from across Natural Power to help identify and mitigate risks to the projects.”
