Renewable Energy Systems Canada has received a green light for a pair of 15MW wind energy proposals in British Columbia.
The Peace River Regional District has approved a rezoning application to allow turbine construction on two properties owned by the South Peace Hutterian Brethren Church.
RES said the company plans to apply for electricity purchase agreements (EPAs) under BC Hydro’s standing offer program for clean energy projects up to 15MW.
The utility requires the proponent to obtain all approvals before a standard offer program contract can be granted.
According to regulatory filings, the UK-headquartered developer proposes to build five to six turbines at the South Peace East and South Peace West projects, located in eastern British Columbia near the border with Alberta. The turbines would be more than 4km from the nearest residence.
A wind measurement campaign started in 2013 using a sodar unit and a 60-meter wind monitoring tower was installed in April 2016. Interconnection studies with BC Hydro are under way.
RES aims to obtain an EPA by the end of the year or in early 2017 and start construction next summer. The developer is targeting a 2018 commercial operation date.
