US consultants Totaro & Associates have unveiled a new tool to evaluate product gaps for wind turbine manufacturers.
The MKT Prism tool will check for gaps based on shifting market demand and suggest new turbine models, it said.
The service evaluates historical market data and builds a predictive model of future capacity additions based on wind resource availability and the existing products offered in each region.
This is an improvement from conventional market evaluation tools, which only look at supply and demand factors that fluctuate wildly and have been proven to be inaccurate, according to the consultants.
Totaro said it has already won its first order for the tool from a Tier 1 manufacturer.
“We’ve had inquiries from multiple OEMs and sub-component suppliers based on the Beta demos we’ve already given earlier this year,” Totaro chief executive Philip Totaro said.
“In addition to understanding where they need to go next, most companies are keen to understand what their competition is up to.”
