Trustpower plans to start building a $500m wind and solar hybrid project in Australia next year.
The Waddi facility near Perth is expected to have up to 170MW of wind and 80MW of photovoltaic capacity.
The solar plant secured planning permission from the Shire of Dandaragan in September and from the Development Assessment Panel this month, consultants Wind Prospect said.
Wind Prospect sold the 57-turbine wind project to Trustpower last year but is still involved in the developments.
The Shire of Dandaragan has also approved an amendment to the planning permit for the wind farm this month, allowing an increase of the turbine tip height to 165m and a new location for the transmission line.
“Wind Prospect initiated the development of the project in 2008 using our expertise in both wind and solar, and it is exciting to see the project finally gain momentum” Wind Prospect chief executive Euan Cameron said.
