OnPath Energy has begun turbine installation works at the Mill Rig wind farm in South Lanarkshire as deliveries of major components get underway.
The company said Nordex is supplying six N163/5.X turbines for the 33.4MW project, with deliveries taking place overnight through December and into January.
Initial components including tower sections, nacelles, drive trains and hubs are being pre-installed in parallel with deliveries to maximise efficiency, according to the company.
Delivery of the 80m blades, described as the longest to be installed on UK turbines to date, is expected early next year ahead of commissioning and energisation planned for spring.
The wind farm will feature six turbines with tip heights of 199.5m and is expected to generate power equivalent to the needs of more than 45,000 homes, the company stated.
Martin Kellerman, construction director at OnPath Energy, said: “Welcoming Nordex on site represents a key moment for Mill Rig. Their team brings vast technical expertise and a strong track record of safe and efficient turbine delivery.”
Danny Hasledine, director sales UK and Ireland at Nordex Group, said: “We’re proud to be partnering once again with OnPath on the Mill Rig project and we are especially excited that this will mark the first installation of our N163/5.X turbine in the UK. It’s a significant step forward, not just for Nordex, but for high-performance onshore wind in this region.”
Full turbine erection is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with completion forecast by the end of March and commissioning to follow.
OnPath Energy said the project includes a £5 million community benefit fund and forms part of its operational portfolio of 12 UK wind farms.
