GE Renewable Energy has inked a deal to supply 4.8MW turbines from its Cypress platform for the 51MW Gazi 9 wind farm in Turkey.
The US manufacturer will supply hardware to Sanko Enerji with a ten-year service agreement.
Blades will be produced by GE company LM Wind Power at a site in Izmir and towers will also be made locally in Turkey.
Construction at the $65m project in north-western Canakkale will start in the fourth quarter of this year. Commercial operations are expected in October 2020.
GE Turkey head of sales and business development Yigit Erzan said the deal shows the platform’s demand in the region.
“While the Cypress platform encompasses a range of turbines for use around the world, it is particularly well-suited to site conditions commonly found in Turkish wind energy projects.”
Sanko Energy said: “With this agreement, Sanko Energy will be one step closer to its goal of increasing its existing 725 MW all renewable energy installed capacity to 900MW by the end of 2020.”
