The US broke through the 100GW of installed wind capacity barrier during the third quarter of 2019 according to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).
The trade association’s latest quarterly report found the US added 1927MW between July and September, bringing the total installed to 100.125GW.
AWEA said the country has installed more than 57,700 wind turbines across 41 states and two US territories.
“100 gigawatts of wind isn’t just a number, it’s the product of 40 years of ingenuity and work from the more than 114,000 Americans directly employed by the wind industry,” said chief executive Tom Kiernan.
“Their hard work has paid off from pioneering California to the booming wind belt in America’s heartland and our first offshore project in New England waters,” he added.
The AWEA report said installations for the year total 3667MW, up 123% over the first three quarters of 2018.
In addition, AWEA said there is a “near-term wind advanced onshore wind pipeline” of 46.5GW, including 22.651GW under construction and 23.844GW in advanced development.
There is also of 5792MW of offshore wind in development, it added.
