National Renewable Solutions has completed the fourth and final phase of the 560MW Broadview wind farm cluster in New Mexico and Texas.
The cluster comprises four projects that took five years to build in Curry County, New Mexico, and Deaf Smith County, Texas
The wind farms are operating and owned, individually, by BayWa Renewables and Goldman Sachs, and Pattern Energy.
Local landowners and National Renewable Solutions formed Broadview in 2012, with the landowners as both leaseholders and investors/members in the project company.
The National Renewable Solutions team led the development of the projects.
In 2013, Broadview acquired over 560MW of long-term transmission rights from Cargill Companies that runs through Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) and Arizona Public Service (APS) areas to deliver most of the renewable energy to Southern California Edison and Sacramento Municipal Utility District in California.
Broadview worked for three additional years to confirm the transmission with PNM and APS.
Once the PNM and APS transmission service was confirmed, Pattern Energy agreed to step in to continue to perfect the transmission rights, construct and ultimately operate three of the wind farms – 160MW Broadview Energy KW, 164MW Broadview Energy JN and the 220MW Grady Wind Energy Center.
National Renewable Solutions sold the 19.8MW Broadview development to BayWa after securing a PPA with Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, in cooperation with Farmer’s Electric Cooperative, the local rural electric association.
BayWa later sold the project to Goldman Sachs.
National Renewable Solutions chief executive Patrick Pelstring said: “We are incredibly pleased to have the opportunity to celebrate completion of over 560MW of projects in New Mexico.
“Today is a culmination of several years of hard work from our contractors, financial partners, and staff and is a testament to the value of the long-term partnerships we create with the local landowners and communities where our projects are located.”
