Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision on the 63MW Clashindarroch 2 wind farm in Scotland, clearing the way for construction to begin.
Clashindarroch 2 will be built next to the existing Clashindarroch onshore wind farm (pictured) near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, which has been generating renewable electricity for 10 years.
Clashindarroch 2 will feature 14 turbines, which will generate enough clean electricity to power more than 61,000 UK homes annually.
Preparatory works will begin in autumn 2025 before construction kicks off in spring 2026.
Vattenfall is expecting to reach first power at the wind farm in summer 2027.
UK country manager at Vattenfall Claus Wattendrup said: “This investment decision reflects our confidence in the UK’s onshore wind sector and is a clear signal of our commitment to creating local jobs and strengthening the supply chain.
“Clashindarroch 2 will bring real economic benefits to the region, while also enhancing the local landscape and supporting wildlife through our dedicated habitat management plans.
“By generating affordable, home-grown renewable energy, it will also help protect bill payers from the rollercoaster of fossil fuel prices and support the UK’s climate goals.”
The wind farm is expected to offset almost 91,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.
It will also feature a community benefit fund, providing around £315,000 per year to support local initiatives.
The operational Clashindarroch wind farm has also benefited the local area during its first decade of operation, providing more than £2m in funding.
