Verbund Green Power Iberia, the Spanish subsidiary of the main Austrian utility, has commissioned the Ayamonte wind farm (pictured), located in the province of Huelva.
The 34.8MW project, comprising six turbines supplied by General Electric, will produce about 78,400MWh of clean energy each year.
With this start-up, the renewable energy capacity that Verbund Green Power Iberia has in operation in Spain amounts to 630MW.
This is made up of around 380MW of wind power and another 250MW of solar projects.
In addition, the company currently has sites under construction totalling 95MW, as well as an extensive portfolio of renewable energy plants in an advanced stage of development.
Ayamonte is the second wind farm Verbund has commissioned this year, following the energisation of the 39MW Loma de los Pinos scheme in July.
Thus, Verbund Green Power Iberia considerably reinforced its commitment to the Spanish wind market this year with the acquisition of a portfolio of wind assets totalling 257MW from EDPR in July.
Since its entry into the Spanish market in 2021, the company has strengthened its position in the Iberian Peninsula as an electric power generation company.
Verbund Green Power Iberia’s projects are located in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Extremadura, Madrid and Murcia.
The developer’s 2030 strategy foresees significant growth in PV and wind power in Europe, with the aim of covering between 20% and 25% of its total generation with PV and onshore wind by the end of this decade.
