Indonesia’s national electricity company PT PLN and a group of investors led by Equis have agreed to develop a 60MW onshore wind farm in the southeast Asian country that will feature Vestas turbines.
The South Sulawesi project will be the first large-scale renewable energy project in Indonesia, the Danish Embassy in Indonesia said.
The development will support Indonesia’s aim to add an extra 36GW of electricity capacity by 2025, of which 23% is targeted to come from renewable sources.
The agreement to build the new wind farm is the result of cooperation between Indonesian and Danish authorities and private sector companies.
A power purchase agreement was signed between PT PLN and the group of international investors, the Danish Embassy said. Vestas, meanwhile, agreed to supply turbines to the project by signing a separate contract.
“Vestas sees a long-term potential for wind energy in Indonesia, and we are confident this project can help pave the way for additional wind power investments in Indonesia,” Vestas chief executive Anders Runevad said.
