Vestas has won a turbine order for a 151MW wind farm in Brazil from Casa dos Ventos.
The Danish wind company will supply 36 of its V150-4.2 turbines for the Folha Larga wind farm in Bahia and will operate and maintain the plant for 20 years.
The wind turbines will be locally manufactured in Vestas’ new factory in Aquiraz in the state of Ceara, for delivery in the first quarter of 2020.
Casa dos Ventos, one of Brazil’s biggest wind developers, aims to commission the wind by the end of the second quarter of 2020, before its regulatory deadline.
Folha Larga takes the Vestas’ total order intake for the V150-4.2 turbine in Brazil to 252MW.
Casa dos Ventos director Lucas Araripe said: “As wind power becomes more important and Casa dos Ventos increases its investments in the sector, we are honoured to count on Vestas’ support.
“We intend to begin construction in 2019 and have the wind park fully operational by 2020, ahead of its regulatory schedule.”
Vestas’ Aquiraz factory meets Brazilian Development Bank FINAME II rules and will generate hundreds of new jobs, according to the Danish turbine maker.
Vestas managing director for Brazil and southern LATAM Rogerio Zampronha said: “We believe the V150-4.2 MW’s introduction can break new grounds for Vestas and the wind industry in the country. This deal is very special because it entails a long-term service agreement with Casa dos Ventos, one of the true pioneers and leading investors in the Brazilian wind energy market.”
