Greencoat UK Wind has placed a turbine order with Vestas for the 47MW Douglas West merchant wind farm in Scotland.
The Danish manufacturer will supply 13 V136 machines each rated at 3.6MW with 82-metre towers for the project in South Lanarkshire.
Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2021 with commissioning planned for the third quarter 2021.
The wind farm will feature the first Vestas machines with 136-metre rotors (pictured) in the UK.
“This project shows that when we are able to install our newest technology, we are able to deliver a profitable wind park under merchant market conditions, offering the absolute lowest cost of energy to the British energy consumers,” said Vestas president for northern and central Europe Nils de Baar.
“Douglas West is a big step forward for renewable energy in the UK,” he added.
The project was originally developed by 3R Energy and owned by English developer Blue Energy, which will manage the construction process on behalf of Douglas West Wind Farm Ltd, owned by Greencoat UK Wind.
The order includes supply and commissioning of the wind turbines and a full-scope service agreement for 10 years with an option to extend to 20 years.
