Vestas has announced its latest high capacity factor turbine is ready for commissioning.
Based on the 4MW platform variants, the V163-4.5MW builds on technology and an established supply chain, representing the next step of technological evolution leveraging modularisation, Vestas said.
With a larger rotor-to-rating ratio, the machine improves the economy of wind projects under medium to lower wind conditions rendering superior park annual energy production, it added.
According to Vestas, a 18% increase in swept area, the V163-4.5MW has a large rotor-size-to-rating ratio resulting in a higher capacity factor, leading to up to 10% higher Annual Energy Production at park level depending on site-specific conditions.
This increases power output at lower wind speeds significantly and improves predictability and stability in production, optimising the utilisation of the wind park as well as benefitting the energy grid, it said.
