MidAmerican Energy plans to install Vestas hardware at a pair of wind projects totaling 338MW in Iowa.
The company has selected the Vestas V110 2MW turbine, MidAmerican spokesperson Debora Blume told reNEWS.
The 170MW Beaver Creek development in Boone and Greene counties was initiated by MidAmerican, while the 168MW Prairie scheme in Mahaska County was acquired from RPM Access.
Construction is slated to get under way in April with commercial operation expected to start by the end of the year.
MidAmerican has hired MA Mortenson to build Beaver Creek, while Blattner Energy is general contractor for the Prairie scheme, said Blume.
The wind farms make up the first phase of the company’s 2GW Wind XI project.
MidAmerican is identifying additional sites to host another 1662MW and plans to start construction on these projects in 2018 and 2019.
Construction on the entire $3.6bn Wind XI project is expected to be complete by December 2019.
