TPI Composites has signed a multi-year supply agreement with Vestas to provide blades for V136 wind turbines for markets in Central and South America.
The blades will be produced on two manufacturing lines at TPI’s Matamoros facility in Mexico, which is scheduled to start production in the first half of 2018.
The facility, which will be located on a 13-hectare site, will initially be 48,000 square metres in size with scope for further expansion.
TPI Composites president and chief executive Steve Lockard said: “We are excited that Vestas has chosen to partner with TPI on blade production again and in a third geography to serve the growing Latin American wind market.”
Meanwhile, Vestas has secured two firm and unconditional orders totalling 110MW in China.
Each deal comprises 55MW of 2MW hardware for unnamed clients and wind farms.
Delivery and commissioning are expected to begin in the second half of 2017.
