Danish company Vestas is seeking a potential new buyer for its minority stake in the 310MW Lake Turkana wind farm in Kenya, after a deal to sell the interest to Google was cancelled.
A spokesman for Vestas said that due to delays relating mainly to the transmission line, an agreement to sell its 12.5% stake to Google was cancelled last year.
“Lake Turkana Wind Park is now fully operational and delivering sustainable energy to the citizens of Kenya,” he said.
“(But) as Vestas’ strategy doesn’t include being a long-term wind park owner, we’re currently in commercial dialogues with potential buyers of our shares.”
The agreement to sell the interest to Google was announced in 2015.
Installation of the project’s 365 Vestas V52 850kW was completed in 2017.
However, the wind farm did not become fully operational until December 2018 when the Loiyangalani-Suswa transmission line was completed.
Google had not responded for a request for comment at press time.
