Vestas has secured a 77MW turbine order from MidAmerican Energy to repower a wind farm in the Iowa.
With this order, and including previously purchased 2MW platform components, Vestas will repower the Pocahontas Prairie site’s existing Gamesa G90-2MW turbines with 24 V110-2MW and 16 V110-2.2MW wind turbines, for a full project capacity of 83 MW.
Turbine delivery will begin in the second quarter of 2021 with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.
“We’re pleased to partner with MidAmerican Energy to repower their Pocahontas Prairie wind project and use new technology to bring extended life to the project, bringing low-cost and reliable wind energy to the community for the long-term”, said Jeff Fuchs, Vestas in North America sales vice president.
Repowering offers solutions for asset owners facing the higher operation and maintenance costs of an aging fleet and mitigates the complexities of sourcing spare parts for obsolete technology.
The order includes supply, installation, and commissioning of the turbines as well as a multi-year service agreement.
Vestas has also received a separate 55MW turbine order for an undisclosed wind project in the US.
The company will provide 24 V120-2.2MW and four V110-2MW wind turbines including previously purchased PTC components.
The order includes supply, installation, and commissioning of the turbines as well as 20-year service agreement.
Turbine delivery will begin in the third quarter of 2021 with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.
