Vestas has secured a 99MW turbine supply order from Iberdrola to repower two wind farms in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain.
The Molar de Molinar and Isabela projects are to be equipped with 11 V150-4.5MW and 11 V136-4.5MW units, respectively.
They will replace the 139 legacy models currently installed at the sites, where a roughly 30% increase in energy output is expected, according to Vestas.
The manufacturer has also agreed a 10-year Active Output Management (AOM 4000) service agreement.
Turbine delivery is expected by the second quarter of 2025, with commissioning planned by the end of next year.
Vestas country manager for Spain José Luis del Cerro said the order “underlines the great potential in repowering older onshore turbines with new and efficient technology”.
“It also showcases the suitability of our 4MW portfolio for the Spanish market. Its full converter technology provides our customers with the reliability they need to operate in the Spanish grid, marked by an increasing participation of renewable sources.”
Iberdrola’s head of project delivery José González Bujanda added: “Thanks to the grants awarded by the Spanish Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), through a competitive process, Iberdrola has been able to start these pioneering investments in repowering.
“The projects required to dismantle the old wind farms and to adapt the foundations and electrical connections to host larger machines. The installation of more modern wind turbines will allow us to make better use of the wind resource, reducing the environmental impact.”
Elsewhere, Vestas has confirmed three other European orders totalling 198MW, including for two sites in Germany and one in Latvia.
The latter is for an unnamed 64MW project developed by Ventspils Wind that will feature 10 V162-6.4MW machines.
The German arrays comprise the 86MW Fischborn and 48MW Ohrenbach projects, where V172-7.2MW and V162-6.0MW hardware will be deployed, respectively, and deliveries are scheduled for mid-2026.
