Design Commission for Wales has launched a consultation seeking views on its latest guidance for designing large-scale onshore wind and solar projects.
The final Designing for Renewable Energy in Wales template will be a “material consideration” in determining planning decisions for future onshore renewable developments across the country.
It is the second call for feedback on a document that replaces previous guidance, Designing Wind Farms in Wales (2014), following consultations held last year.
Updates are being sought to reflect recent policy developments in Wales, which include generating the equivalent of 70% of its electricity consumption from renewables by 2030, as well as technological changes.
A series of design objectives are covered, including local, environmental, landscape and visual impacts.
The draft adds that “high quality, new and innovative technology” should be used at new developments to “maximise the power generation potential and minimise negative environmental impacts”.
The consultation is now live and remains open until 19 June.
