The Welsh government is providing Awel Aman Tawe (AAT) with £3.55m towards its 4.7MW Mynydd y Gwrhyd wind farm north of Pontardawe in Wales.
The money, together with over £1m raised by the group, will allow AAT to make a payment for a wind turbine and help the project meet the feed-in tariff (FiT) deadline.
FiT changes by the UK government last year lowered the rates being paid out, but if a project has pre-registered for FiT it is guaranteed a set level of return if it is connected to the grid and operating by 29 March 2017.
The two-turbine wind farm has also been supported by the Welsh government’s Ynni’r Fro programme since 2010, and its successor the Local Energy Service.
