Westar Energy has started buying electricity from two wind farms with a combined 400MW in Kansas.
The Kingman and Ninnescah wind farms, with 200MW of capacity each, have started operating in the US state, the utility said.
They were developed and will be operated by NextEra Energy.
Kingman, located in Pratt County, comprises 121 turbines while the facility in Kingman County consists of 120 machines.
The Kansas utility also expects to commission the 280MW Western Plains wind farm in early 2017, taking its total renewable energy capacity to about 1750MW.
