Wind2 has submitted its plans for a 45MW wind farm on the Isle of Skye to Highland Council.
The proposed Balmeanach Wind Farm would comprise 10 turbines with a blade tip height of 150 metres.
The majority of the turbines would be located on the Bracadale Estate, on land that forms part of the Balmeanach and Caroy Common Grazings.
It is around three km south of Edinbane, 6.5km east of Dunvegan and 7km north of Struan.
The project is being developed by Wind2 on behalf of EDP Renewables.
Fraser Mackenzie, Development Director for Wind2, said: “We have worked closely with the Grazings while developing Balmeanach Wind Farm.
“The feedback we received from the Grazings, Highland Council’s planning department and from the various community engagement events we’ve undertaken has helped us improve the design of the wind farm.
“As well as generating the equivalent of the renewable energy needed to power over 47,000 homes, we will be offering a community benefit fund for £225,000 per annum for local communities on Skye.
“Fuel poverty is a real problem in the Highlands and Islands, so we’re also looking at a near neighbour electricity contribution scheme.
“This would offer those living closest to Balmeanach and Ben Sca, our neighbouring wind farm, money towards their energy bills or a lump sum payment to install energy efficiency measures in their homes.”
If approved, Balmeanach wind farm will offer a community shared ownership opportunity, whereby local communities can invest to receive up to 5% of the project’s net profit after tax.
The shared ownership arrangement is also being offered on the consented Ben Sca Wind Farm.
Balmeanach Wind Farm has secured a grid connection with SSE Distribution and could be operational by 2027, subject to the delivery of the planned Isle of Skye to Fort Augustus transmission line reinforcement works.
