Mexico has confirmed the 23 winners of its second renewable energy auction, awarding 2871MW of new wind and solar capacity.
The selected companies will invest about $4bn over the next three years to build 36 projects, the country’s energy ministry said.
Winners include companies from 11 countries, including Acciona Energy, Iberdrola, Enel, Fotowatio and Engie.
The average price per megawatt hour awarded was $33.47, or 30% less than the average in the first tender, the government said.
Mexico has now awarded about 5GW through its two first renewable energy auctions, which are part of a plan to generate at least 35% of its electricity from clean sources by 2024.
