Engineering consultancy Wood has secured onshore wind engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreements in the US worth a combined $100m (€90m).
The next phase of American Electric Power (AEP) Renewables’ 128MW Flat Ridge 3 wind farm is the largest of the contract awards for Aberdeen-headquartered Wood.
Flat Ridge 3, in Kansas, is an extension of the Flat Ridge 1 and 2 facilities, which together comprise some of the largest wind farms in the US.
Flat Ridge 3 will use 62 turbines.
Wood’s wind EPC contracts also include an award from Black Hills Energy for its Corriedale project in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
The renewable energy plant will supply electricity for Black Hills Energy’s Renewable Ready programme, serving commercial, industrial and public sector customers in South Dakota and Wyoming.
Wood will also build four new wind farms in Morrow and Umatilla Counties in Oregon for Orchard Windfarms.
The EPC contractor will be responsible for offloading and constructing the wind turbines, installing the associated collector system plus civil and foundation works.
The projects will deploy around 100 turbines combined with a total generating power of 230MW, requiring over 400 personnel in their construction. Wood said the wind facilities will take up to a year to build and bring online.
Wood Asset Solutions Americas chief executive Stephanie Cox said: “From the Pacific north-west state of Oregon and the western state of Wyoming, to the midwestern states of South Dakota and Kansas, these awards show the positive momentum Wood is generating across the US in the renewables market.
“We are committed to playing a forward role in achieving a balanced and secure energy supply in the US. As the renewables market continues to grow through rising demand, further investment and shifts in technology, our ambitious, versatile and established EPC offering positions Wood as a partner of choice for existing and new developments.”
