WPD’s Auzay wind farm in Vendée, France, has come into commission.
The 35.6MW project injected its first kilowatt-hours into the electricity market thanks to its 9 Enercon E138 wind turbines with 110m mast height.
The Auzay wind farm is the second park in France to be equipped with E138 wind turbines and will produce more electricity than the 55 wind turbines already installed on the southern Vendée plain, according to WPD .
It will cover the electricity consumption of 34,200 inhabitants, or the equivalent of 46% of the electricity consumption of the Community of Communes of the Pays de Fontenay-Vendée.
Enercon sales manager for the west of France Yann Ricordel said: “These nine latest generation E-138 wind turbines are ideal for the French market: more competitive, the assembly time is optimized and they have smaller platforms reducing the impact on space consumption.”
The Auzay wind project was named the winner in March 2018’s first tender period.
It is the second WPD project carried out with a tender price.
WPD president for onshore France Grégoire Simon said: “The Auzay wind project, winner of the first call for tenders, makes an important contribution to the French energy transition.
“The resulting average price of € 65.4/MWh was a clear sign of the competitiveness of wind power at market price level.
“Thanks to our technological choices, we are thus contributing to lower electricity prices for consumers.”
